Kobe Bryant is considered one of the highest paid athletes in the US. His salary for the 2010-2011 season is almost $25 million dollars. He started his first season with the Los Angeles Lakers. He started in 1996 with a salary of about $1 million and in his fourth season, his salary hiked up from $1.3 million to $9 million dollars!
It was in the 1998 – 1999 season that marked Kobe’s emergence in the NBA. By his fourth season, he was already a premier guard for the Lakers. He set records in the Lakers and helped the team win game every game. The Lakers won a three-peat championship in 1999 until the year 2000. Kobe is considered one of the youngest players to ever win the championships three years in a row.
His salary kept hiking up and after the three-peat championship; he was already earning $13.5 million per year. Of course, every year it becomes higher and higher. It became at $19.4 million in the 2007 – 2008 season and it hit the $21 million mark in the 2008 – 2009 season. Besides Kobe’s salary with the Lakers, he also has different endorsement deals.
Oftentimes we hear about the exorbitant monetary gains of football players and wonder how these people manage to get them. The National Football League or NFL tries to get the best players assigned on basic salary also referred to as minimum salary. Whether it is soccer or American football, there are some really fantastic contracts that the players sign up which pay them jaw dropping monetary remuneration. The contracts include subcontracts and agreements with teams and clubs, official sponsorships, individual advertising contracts and product endorsements. All put together these form the multi million dollar contracts that we hear on news and sports magazines.
But do all players get paid similarly. Frankly no, better the player more the remuneration. This is because every team wants to hire only the best player and these players are the ones who get to play in the maximum number of games. This means that that player will be more popular than others and it is this popularity that the clubs and companies want to benefit from. When the team or the club shortlists a player, he automatically becomes a National Football League Players Association member and the league protects the player’s interest including salaries and remuneration.
